Referral and Testing Process Overview
STEP 1: Parents, Teachers or Students nominate themselves for possible gifted testing by completing a nomination form and the TABs form. Students are also automatically nominated for gifted testing, through the county's automatic screening process, if they score a 90% or greater on the MAP Growth Reading or Math Assessment. At this point, the Gifted Lead Teacher will begin to gather data pieces in preparation for step 2.
STEP 2: The school eligibility team reviews data on each student to make a determination on whether to move forward with gifted testing. Possible items that may be reviewed include; MAP data, reading level, GMAS scores, grades, pre- and post- assessment data, iReady, IXL, etc. The team is looking for consistent characteristics and behaviors that indicate the need for gifted testing.
STEP 3: Students are formally evaluated for gifted services in the areas of mental ability, achievement, creativity, and motivation.
STEP 4: All assessment scores are recorded. Scores are sent to the schools. Schools evaluate assessment results and recommend services.
