  • The first class graduated in 1945 with 19 students.
  • Media Center is named after William Turner, former WRHS Assistant Principal.
  • Weight Room is named after Dr. W.G. Talbert, former HCBOE Board Chairman.
  • Multipurpose Gymnasium is named after Elijah Weatherspoon, longtime teacher and coach in Houston County.
  • Basketball court is named after Chip Malone, former WRHS head coach.
  • Former school colors: 1945-1948 Blue and Gold, 1948-1950 Green and White, 1950-Current Cardinal and White

Completed School Improvements and Renovations

  • 1954: 20 Classroom and Gymnasium Addition 
    • The project bid on September 2, 1954 and was paid with federal funds.  Briggs Construction of Macon received the bid in the amount of $344,664.
  • 1956: 8 Classroom Addition
  • 1958: 13 Classroom Addition
  • 1966: On February 27, just before midnight, there was a fire at the school.  The fire started in Wing A and crossed over into Wing B.  The fire then jumped Wing C and continued to burn Wing D and the gym.  After the fire damage, students attended Northside High with NHS students attending school in the mornings and WRHS students attending in the afternoon.  This continued until WRHS could return to their campus.  Immediately after the fire, the insurance adjusters made an appraisal of the damages and it was decided to rebuild WRHS as soon as possible.  Amerson Construction served as the contractor and Henry Corsini served as the architect for reconstruction.  The final adjusted contract sum was $793,260 for repairs dated July 25, 1967.
